Here’s the deal. The average adult human is made up of about 60% water. MY other 40% is probably chocolate. In all seriousness, a lot of us struggle to consume enough water on the daily to stay hydrated.

Can you relate?

…and dehydration leads to BAD, BAD things.

Ok guys, this isn’t a lecture on why you should be drinking water, but this is an informative post to let you know what can happen if you DON’T drink enough water & my little twists to make it easier.

First of all, I am KNOWN for not drinking enough water. About a year ago, I had a little migraine episode which landed me in the hospital. Not fun, ok?

To make a long story short, it was a normal day, I worked out, I started working and then the following:

  • Started seeing black

  • Couldn’t remember basic words such as chair, rug, table, etc…

  • My hand and face went numb

  • My speech was slurred

…and you guessed it… I panicked and assumed it was a stroke.

Long story short, we went to the emergency room, I had a brain scan and it turns out it was a rare form of a migraine.

Guess how much water I drank that day?

Maybe a glass.

One intense hour workout later without food… and BAM!

Ever since that day, I have had to find ways to stay hydrated throughout the day and get in the habit of it as well. I wasn’t going through THAT again.

What else can happen when you don’t consume enough water? Let me share…

  • Headaches

  • Lack of energy

  • Acne

  • Affects your mood

  • Poor sleep

  • Reduces focus

  • Feeling bloated

…need I say more?

When I became aware of how dehydrated I was, I actually kept a journal to see if I truly felt any different. I mean… we all hear Jennifer Aniston talking about how her beauty secret is water, right? I wanted to find out for myself.

…but I hate the taste of water and am never thirsty.

I’m going to FIRST share the benefits & then my secret twist to making sure I stay hydrated.

I think most of us know the benefits of staying hydrated, but let’s get more specific, ok?

  1. More energy ( obviously )

  2. Better sleep ( obviously )

  3. Clearer skin that glows ( Definitely noticed a difference )

  4. Softer lips + skin ( ummm helloooo, who wouldn’t want to prevent chapped lips? )

  5. Boosts your metabolism ( hi toned body & weight loss )

  6. Removes waste + toxins ( stay healthier & prevent getting sick )

  7. Helps your muscles + joints ( I’m a runner so this is crucial )

  8. Prevents headaches ( I suffer from migraines )

  9. Will help cure a hangover ( I just thought I’d throw this in there )

…honestly, you just feel better overall. We should all know this.

And if you are anything like me, I used to be HOOKED on a good diet coke. What is water? That was my mindset.

OK, so let me share my twist with you on how I manage to drink 8 ( 8 oz. ) glasses of water ( minimum ) per day.

To begin, I have to tell you, I did have to get in the habit. It wasn’t easy. It took work. Crazy to think that drinking water can take work, but it can.

BUT, I’ve done a few things that have made drinking water EASIER, but also with added benefits if ya know what I mean.

DRINKING WATER WITH A TWIST

IT’S ALL ABOUT THOSE BENEFITS

  • Drink 2 glasses in the morning

  • Drink 2 glasses at night before bed

Hello, that’s 4 glasses right there. You just have to force yourself to drink those 4 glasses. It takes less than 3 minutes. Just do it.

Think about it this way:

Drinking 2 glasses of water when you first wake up actually wakes you up and gives you energy. Isn’t that a bonus?

Drinking 2 glasses of water before you go to sleep actually has a couple of benefits for me:

  1. Keeps me hydrated through the night so I sleep better

  2. When I wake up I feel like I have more energy

…so if you aren’t a morning person, take this into consideration!

  • Get a cute water bottle and always keep it filled

You can purchase any on Amazon. Super easy. Super affordable. Make sure it’s a gallon or half gallon at the least.

THE TWIST

I’m all about that added benefit like I said

I keep this water bottle filled, but I also make it tastier!

Try one of three things ( or create your own concoction ). You can use all three options throughout the day OR choose one and stick with it.

TWIST #1

Add Organic Apple Cider Vinegar

Ok… this might not have the BEST taste, but again, the benefits are what I’m obsessed with. I actually look forward to having a glass of water with Organic Apple Cider Vinegar because not only will I drink it fast, but it:

  • 
Boosts my metabolism

  • Gives me energy

  • Great for acid reflux

There are MANY benefits, but again, I’m just sharing what works for me and why I like it.

TWIST #2

Add Green Tea

I LOVE tea! So, grab an organic green tea packet ( I prefer caffeinated for that extra boost of energy ), and I just add it to my water bottle. Super easy. Gives me energy and makes it taste better!

TRICK: Sometimes I will put decaffeinated green tea or chamomile tea in my water at night to help me sleep.

TWIST #3

Add Fruits!

Ok… who doesn’t love a little fruit? Anything to make my water sweeter is a plus! I like to add blueberries, raspberries or strawberries. Not only are they antioxidants, but they taste good! It’s all about the added value.

Plus, when you finish the water, you get a sweet treat at the end. OR, you can purchase the water bottles that have the fruit filter in it. Amazon that bottle and find one you like!

Sometimes just knowing that I am putting healthy things in my body, excites me & helps me to drink more!

WHAT IF YOU AREN’T INTO THIS TWIST?

There is another option

Something else that I tried that was simpler ( especially for when I’m traveling or super busy ) is just timing out when I drink my water.

  • 2 glasses when I wake up

  • 1 glass by 12 pm

  • 1 glass by 2 pm

  • 1 glass by 3 pm

  • 1 glass by 4 pm

  • 2 glasses before bed

Create a schedule! Have your water ready ( preferably a water bottle to save time & make it as easy as possible ) and chug! You’ll get in the swing of things.

ANOTHER TIP: Sometimes I lose track of how many glasses I drink, so keeping a checklist in your phone or on paper also helps me!
