8 WAYS TO PRACTICE SELF-LOVE
We tend to get caught up in our crazy lives, and even more so, the lives of others. What other people are up to, what they are doing, what they are not doing, you know?
Pay attention to what you are speaking about when you go out with friends. When you meet someone new. I find, and as a generalization, a lot of people find that it’s about what’s going on in the world, celebrity gossip, what’s happening with friends, clients, relationships, right?
…but what about you?
That’s what I personally ask myself. What about me? Why am I focusing my energy on other people? It’s almost distracting me from MYSELF. It gets me out of my head.
Why else do we gossip?
To either compare ourselves, make ourselves feel better or get ourselves out of our heads.
When I take time to indulge in self-love, I feel better. I get uncomfortable. I grow. That’s what I’m all about. So, having a self-love plan in place helps me to stay present.
If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I do “The Daily Check-In” on my Insta Story. I do that for a reason. For self-love. For mindfulness. When you look at that daily check-in, I want that to be a reminder to take a moment for YOURSELF. To be present.
When we are present and aware of how we feel, you can make better decisions that boost your mood and your life!
You can say that self-care is my thing, ok? Self-care & self-love. You HAVE to make time for it. But, again, this is just me sharing what I know and my experiences.
When I find myself getting overwhelmed, panicking, sad or stressed, I know that I’ve been neglecting myself, ok?
Here’s what to do when you find yourself in this position
8 WAYS TO PRACTICE SELF-LOVE
For anyone who needs it & the busy entrepreneur ( like myself )
Everything starts with the mind, k? That’s how I see it and that’s what I believe.
Write yourself a love letter or a letter about what you love about yourself
I have one that I keep in a journal, and I actually refer to it whenever I am feeling down, or stressed, or anxious, ok? I will also start from scratch on a good or rough day and write to myself. It just makes you feel good. Keep it simple. It’s self-love.
Create a vision board
This isn’t everyone’s thing, but it’s my thing. I’m a big dreamer. I’m an action taker, but I’m a dreamer, which excites me to take action. Got it? While I am obsessed with The Law of Attraction, practice it and have seen results, a vision board is a great way to put out into the universe what you want and build excitement.
When you can actually see on paper, or on a board or computer what you desire, it helps you to feel good about life and what you are going after!
Write a gratitude list
Ok, this is a basic one. But, you know I do it with a twist. First of all, start your day each day by adding to your gratitude list or creating a new one.
That’s what I do. I got a super cute journal DEDICATED to gratitude. My twist is that I don’t just write it out. I fill that journal with photos of what I am grateful for, with happy memories, with people I love and why. I do not just list it out. I give reason. I give it a larger purpose.
It is one thing to SEE what you are grateful for, and another to truly bring out the emotions associated. It takes it to a new level. Love yourself enough to take the time to be present. That’s how I see it.
Taking care of ourselves mentally goes hand in hand with how we take care of ourselves physically.
I do this on the daily. Morning and sometimes at night. You can take 3-10 minutes for yourself to meditate. I use the app, Headspace.
My twist is that when I meditate I put on my himalayan salt lamp, I get the eucalyptus ( or lavender ) essential oils going in my diffuser, I make sure the room is dark and I even have the sound of the rain on in the background.
Meditation is YOUR time. It’s time for you to take care of yourself, be present, be mindful and become aware and at peace.
Take a 30 minute walk
So, I’m a big runner, I love to workout, and I make sure to workout at least 6 days/week. Self-love can be what you want though, you know? Sometimes, just taking care of yourself physically on a daily basis by taking a walk can have an impact! It clears your mind, it makes you feel good, boosts endorphins and your mood.
I’m all about that, ok? You can also go and do a good workout. I love Barry’s Bootcamp. I love Yoga. I love just hitting the gym. Do what works for you and get moving.
Nourish Your Body
Honestly, it took me a long time to actually realize the power of food. Replacing chips with veggies and unhealthy sugars with fruits has given me life. #butactually
Take a few minutes each day to be aware of what you eat and set intentions. Nourish your body with good foods full of vitamins and nutrients. These vitamins and nutrients will fuel your body, give you energy and “de-fog” your brain.
I’m chocolate girl. I have to eat chocolate everyday, ok? I don’t believe in diets, but I believe in living a healthy lifestyle. Just be aware of the choices you make.
My new thing is zucchini chips instead of regular chips. So good, so delicious and I feel better. Like I always say, when you feel good, you do good.
A HELPFUL TIP
Keep a journal! You know I’m all about a good journal. You can also keep it in your notes app on your phone. Write out a few alternatives to go through! Instead of “saying” you are going to eat better, PREPARE. Give yourself alternatives ahead of time to turn to.
My favorite self-love tip?
Go cook yourself a healthy dinner! Take time for yourself. Remember, self-love is about taking time for yourself to do things that make YOU feel good. Grab a glass of wine ( if you are of age ), put on some Frank Sinatra ( obsessed ) and start cooking. It’s relaxing, peaceful and fun!
I “pamper” myself everyday. What I mean by that is I take time every night to create “zen.” My zen that makes me feel at peace.
I close all of the shades
Turn on my himalayan salt lamp
Light some of my favorite candles
Turn on the sound of the rain
Put eucalyptus in the aromatherapy diffuser
…and take a hot shower!
The best part is walking out of the shower with the sound of the rain, the scents, the lighting and essentially the whole mood! It’s like you are at a spa! It’s my obsession and it grounds me.
That’s just what works for me, but other ways to pamper yourself are…
Getting a mani/pedi or doing it yourself
Getting your hair blown out or blow out your own hair
Getting a facial
Getting a massage
Do a face mask
Take a warm bath
So many ways to pamper yourself, ok?
Let’s bring this full circle. You have go-to tips for the mind and body, but your soul needs attention as well.
Like I said at first, I personally can find myself at times caught up in the outside world. Disconnected from myself and what I’m going through. As tough as it is, take time off.
Time off from social media. Time off from work. Time off from social activities.
Take a day to unplug. To do what you love. To be present.
These are my go-to tips that I keep handy at ALL TIMES. When I need a reminder, when I need new ideas and what I would send to friends or family. Self-love is necessary. Life is honestly too short not to take care of yourself.
When you can take care of yourself, you can take care of others. You have a clearer mind. You are happier. You can achieve more success. I personally know how difficult it can be to find time for self-care or self-love. I also know how much I need it in times of stress and anxiety.
There are times when I go a week without any self-care because I am too “busy.” Those weeks happen to be even MORE stressful. My decision making is worse and I have less energy. Believe it or not, taking that time to do something for yourself can benefit you long term throughout the day. Even if it only takes 10 minutes.
Trust me, ok? I’ve been there.
Make the time. You matter.
Off to create my zen! If you have any self-love tips that you are OBSESSED with, send me a message or leave it in the comments of my latest Instagram picture!
