BENEFITS OF A HOT STONE MASSAGE
Do you ever have one of those SUPER stressful weeks where you just want to collapse? Welcome to the last week of my life!
I have been on a work overload, traveling, at family events in honor of my grandfather who passed away one year ago and I just haven’t been feeling so hot.
It’s like everything just kind of happened at once if you know what I mean.
The stress is there. My back has been killing me. The tension is real and it was time to try a new treatment. I needed some relief!
I’ve read a lot about hot stone massages…
…and have always wanted to give it a try. I figured this was the perfect opportunity. Plus, it’s been storming EVERY DAY in Miami. The weather has been making me feel a bit tired, cold and achy.
What better way to warm up the mind, body and soul than with a…
Petra Massage, also known as a hot stone massage!
Not only are their treatments fabulous, the staff feels like family and the spa itself is beyond clean. If you are in the local area or visiting Miami anytime soon, you have to check them out. It’s beautiful, chic and in a great location.
But, I hadn’t tried their Petra massage until this past Sunday.
I wanted to find out if it would reduce stress + tension in my body.
We all know that there are hundreds of wellness treatments out there, right?
I’m trying to discover which treatments ACTUALLY work, which are worth the money and help you decide which treatments might be a good fit for you!
Let’s find out if it’s Sydney Approved!
Before I dive into my experience with the Petra Massage, I want to let you in on a few of the benefits!
Definition directly from Eména Spa: “A petra is a stone and this massage uses smooth, heated stones with therapeutic massage to balance and liberate your energy. Strokes of smooth, heated stones will gently massage your body to help relieve pain from fibromyalgia, arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome and other similar conditions. The Hot Stone Massage may also help with stiff joints and muscle spasms.”
Relieve chronic pain
Alejandra took care of me for the Petra massage and she made me feel very comfortable. I just feel that mentioning this is important when it comes to massages because this is supposed to be a relaxing experience!
While I knew the basics of what a Petra ( or hot stone massage ) was, I didn’t actually read into what other people have experienced.
I like to go into new treatments with an open mind and share my own personal experience!
Alejandra started off by having me inhale essential oils ( which we love ). These oils are meant to help put you in a relaxed state, ease any tension and calm the mind.
After a few deep inhales, Alejandra started with a Swedish massage using warm oils for about 5-10 minutes.
This was just soothing and the pressure was perfect! It’s always important to communicate to the masseuse how much pressure you want to avoid any pain. You want this to be a relaxing experience, and I personally went in to see if this would reduce any stress I had been feeling.
After the short Swedish massage, Alejandra began with the warm stones. Larger stones for larger muscle groups and smaller for more intricate areas of the body.
My worry going in ( as a first timer ) was that the stones were going to burn my skin. Quite the contrary. They were warm and it felt AMAZING.
After massaging each area of my back, Alejandra would let the stones sit in that area as she continued working her way across other areas of the body.
She also placed two warm stones in the palm of each hand.
INITIAL THOUGHTS OF THE MASSAGE
The first thought that comes to my mind when I think of a Petra massage is the word grounded.
I felt grounded.
Obviously I had stones in my hands, but having the stones along my spine and in my hands helped me to mentally feel grounded. Closer to the earth. Almost like a sense of calm.
Alejandra then worked her way to my arms, legs and feet. Hot stones were placed in between my toes and I could feel her working on my pressure points as well, which is a great way to reduce stress.
This massage was not painful. The stones were not burning hot. I could feel the tension melting away. I felt grounded. This was more than just your Swedish massage. I believe that because this massage increases circulation, you experience a release!
This massage was one hour long and I fell asleep halfway through.
I personally feel that it was the grounding factor. While I have experienced great stress and anxiety relief from other massages and wellness treatments, this one left me wanting to stay asleep.
Other massages have helped improve my sleep and allowed me to nap well after, but the Petra massage TOTALLY relieved that stress and cleared my mind on the spot.
What did I think overall?
Was it worth the investment?
How often should you go?
Is this Sydney Approved?
Overall, I would give the Petra massage a 10/10.
You just cannot go wrong. If you are stressed and you need a relaxing massage, then this is it!
I do believe that it is worth the investment. There are other alternatives for stress relief that are just as great. The aromatherapy + lathi massage were also wonderful! However, all three of the treatments are entirely different in my opinion.
The Petra massage is a bit pricier, but if you are having one of those days, weeks or months where you are in need of self care. INDULGE in this.
I walked out of there with a clear mind, less tension and I went to sleep at night WITHOUT my melatonin ( which I take every night ) if that tells you anything.
If this sounds like something that you could use, treat yourself to this once/month! When you feel good, you do good. That is my life motto. Take care of yourself. Take care of your mind. Take care of your body and it will take care of you. We cannot be our best selves if we forget to take care of ourselves.
