Can I be honest? I think when it comes to getting motivated, a lot of people are looking for the easy way out, you know?

They want to find a simple solution and let someone else do the work.

But, there are also people who get into funks or are just having a bad day and they need that little spark to get them going, ok?

If you truly want something, you need to put in the work.

When it comes to motivation, that is exactly what I tell myself before I use any of my tips below.

I literally tell myself that if I want something, that I just have to do it. It doesn’t matter if I’m having a bad day, a bad week, or faced a failure. Before I even begin my motivation strategies, I acknowledge the fact that no matter what I will have to put in the work.

Things happen in life. We get into these funks and they are really tough to get out of you know? But they ARE NOT IMPOSSIBLE & it is totally normal.

We all face bad days, and from my experience with bad days & funks, I decided that it would be a good idea to put together a list of things to do for when I need that boost of motivation.

…and honestly, sometimes you wake up and just don’t feel like doing anything. Use this list.

Over the past couple of years I have tried many different “motivation hacks,” and although I truly believe motivation stems from the mind, these resources will definitely help you out!

Clean Up

Ok, I’m a bit OCD, but I love a good clean up. When I am feeling unmotivated, I actually force myself to jump out of bed, make the bed, open the blinds, clean up the bedroom and get organized.

It feels like a breath of fresh air when my home is clean and organized. You’d be surprised at what a little tidying up can do.

Now, it’s tough because when you don’t want to do anything, why would you want to start cleaning up?

Honestly, that comes down to YOU! You need to understand that taking action takes work. You need to just do it. But, once you do, it’s a real game changer, ok?

This is actually the FIRST thing that I do when I’m feeling kind of down or unmotivated. I clean up.

Make A List

Not your typical “to-do” list, but a list of what you DON’T want.

This will actually become a wakeup call. Writing down what you want in life is great, but when you just aren’t feeling it at the moment, that list won’t mean much.

When you write down what you DON’T want, it almost like jolts you and makes you realize that if you don’t get moving, what you don’t want will come to fruition.

Watch a motivational video on YouTube

Literally type in “motivational video for success” on YouTube and watch a few of them. There is something about the music, the message and the way that they are put together that I find to be so inspiring. This has helped to really get me going even on my worst days!

I also watch motivational videos from highly successful entrepreneurs and people who have failed because it reminds me of the journey!

My favorite: Les Brown! He’s wonderful.

Go for a walk/run

Movement helps to clear the mind!

It doesn’t even have to be a walk or a run. You can just hit the gym, go swimming, and just get some fresh air!

You know I like a good twist…

…so I would highly suggest getting into a good podcast while you are doing this. Not only are you getting that movement in, but you are educating yourself!

…and it doesn’t have to be an educational podcast. It can be a funny podcast, a motivational podcast, a business podcast, whatever you enjoy! Get yourself out of your head and get MOVING!

OBSESSED with these Podcasts:

  • LadyGang

  • Tim Ferriss

  • Tony Robbins

  • Gary Vaynerchuk ( obviously )

Write yourself a letter

This is something that you want to do on a day when you are SUPER motivated to your unmotivated self.

I’ve talked about this before and it’s the most powerful things I’ve ever done. When you are having a GREAT day, you are feeling great, doing great and motivated, right?

So, why not sit down and write a letter to yourself talking about how amazing you are doing and why you are so motivated?

It’s coming directly from you and it almost inspires you to get going because you know you’ve done it before!

Motivation comes down to you. Getting inspired on a bad day is normal and probably one of the worst feelings ( in my opinion ). But, you can get through it with the right mindset.

It honestly all comes down to mindset. While these little tricks above are great and totally work, starting with improving your self-talk is a great start!

On that note, I’m going to do some journaling.
