10 WAYS TO GET UNSTUCK
WHAT IT’S LIKE TO FEEL STUCK
LET’S TALK REALITY
We all have those days. I’ve been there. It’s not fun.
BUT, I have a few ways to challenge that feeling to help you become more productive.
Before I dive in, I’m a big believer in a couple of things:
If you are feeling stuck - welcome the feeling. Sit with it. Acknowledge it. Let yourself know that it’s ok to feel stuck. It’s temporary.
When you’re feeling stuck ( after you’ve allowed yourself to FEEL stuck ), challenge your beliefs by doing the opposite of what you want to do. This will help shift your thinking pattern and result in new action.
10 WAYS TO GET UNSTUCK
#1: START YOUR DAY WITH MOTIVATION
When we feel stuck or in a rut, we lack motivation, right? One thing that I found to be HIGHLY effective was by starting off my day with a motivational video. The last thing you’re feeling when you’re stuck is motivated, so why not get a few speeches in there?
How you start your morning will determine the outcome of your day! I recently wrote about morning hacks to live by and you might find that helpful!
Here are a few of my favorite motivational YouTube videos + Podcasts:
#2: ADJUST YOUR ENVIRONMENT
Make simple changes in your home or office space. Move around some furniture, add a few photos to your desk, buy a few new throw pillows, whatever you want! Make a change inside your home or office. This should spark some inspiration and creativity.
#3: EDUCATE YOURSELF
The last thing that you want to do when you feel stuck is to work. So, why not take a little bit of time to fill our minds with knowledge. That knowledge can result in creativity. New ideas and get your mind going.
Like I said, I am a big believer in challenging our thoughts and feelings. That means, do what you don’t feel like doing. Fill your mind with something different than you’re used to.
Take a few online courses. Watch YouTube videos on a skill you’ve been trying to learn. This will lead to inspiration and help get you out of that funk.
#4: TAKE A VACATION
It doesn’t have to be extravagant. It can be a mini vacation. It can be a vacation within your own home. It can be a road trip. It can be a day off of work. Give yourself a break. Time to invest in your own self care and mental health.
If you’re feeling stuck, you’re likely feeling burnt out and in order to get yourself back in line, you might just need that time for you! Take a mental break. A vacation.
#5: GET A JOURNAL
I talk about journaling all the time because I believe in journaling. Journaling was actually something that I used to be SO against. But, there was a time where I hit the lowest point of my life and didn’t know where to turn.
My mom actually suggested that I journal & I did. What happened was not what I expected… Ideas began flowing, realizations began coming to my mind and I felt RELIEF. Journaling ONE TIME might not reverse your feelings immediately, but it will alleviate them.
Journal about how you are feeling, journal about a specific emotion, journal about a situation, journal about anything that comes to your mind. There are so many ways to journal. Get those thoughts out on paper and you’ll feel a weight lifted off of your shoulders.
#6: GO SOMEWHERE NEW
If you work from home, go to a coffee shop. If you work in an office, do something different on your lunch break. If you have the same weekend routine switch it up.
Change what you are doing and try something new. This will not only get you out of the comfort of your normal routines, but it will bring you to a new environment. Help to shift your perspective and challenge your daily thoughts.
#7: START READING
When I’m stuck, I find one of the most inspirational places to be is in a book store. I NEVER used to be a reader. I used to HATE reading. What’s funny is that my grandparents are avid readers and they used to tell me that once you find a book that you like, you’ll begin to enjoy reading.
WELL, I never believed them until it happened. I found a book that I liked and wanted more.
There is nothing like a fresh book. Crisp. New. Ready to read and learn.
I love books about business, mental health, self care and motivation. Shouldn’t surprise you too much considering my brand…
Here are a few of my favorite books:
This might sound childish, but did you know that there are adult coloring books?
When I feel stuck, I feel uninspired and sad. I feel a lack of hope and down in the dumps if you know what I mean.
Drawing is therapeutic and it allows me to get creative without the pressure! Grab a coloring book off Amazon, some markers and crayons and let your inner child out. This is one of the best natural ways to reduce anxiety!
#9: SWITCH UP YOUR PLAYLIST
This is a really fun way to switch your mood and I even wrote an entire blog post on this topic. Music can really impact your mindset. When I’m feeling stuck, I like to play music such as Frank Sinatra, the sound of the ocean, calming music OR…
My little strategy.
Create a playlist.
Start with a song that really defines how you feel.
Pick a handful of songs that get more and more positive and motivating.
Basically, you’re shifting your mood through music! Your songs will help to elevate your mood and get you going. You need to read my post about this because I get SPECIFIC.
End your playlist with a song that you LOVE that always puts you in a good mood.
Are you tired of me talking about movement? I mean I’m full of natural solutions that ACTUALLY work and movement is one of them, ok? Go for a brisk 10 minute walk, do sprints, stretch, sign up for a yoga class, I don’t care what it is.
This will shift your mentality by getting your blood flowing, giving you energy and taking you out of your environment.
When I am having a rough day, I’ll FORCE myself to go for a walk. Just 30 minutes. When I get back I feel like a different person. It’s powerful!
HOT TIP: Something that I used to struggle with was the “forcing” myself to move when I was stuck because it took effort to get my workout clothes and gym shoes on, ok?
So, I dedicated a drawer to workout clothes and I have everything ready to go. This way, I don’t have to go through my piles of clothes. I can just open the drawer, grab pants/shorts, a workout shirt, sports bra & socks and hit the ground running.
The best thing that you can do when you are feeling stuck is to welcome and acknowledge it. Allow yourself to feel stuck. It’s ok and normal. It happens to all of us. The harder we try to push the feelings away, the longer it lasts.
The second best thing that you can do is to do the opposite of what you would normally do. Instead of sticking within your normal routine, try one ( or more ) of these 10 tips! I can almost guarantee you’ll notice a shift in your mood!
I hope you found this post valuable! How do you get unstuck?
